Can you wear two fitness trackers at once?
A ring on the finger, a watch on the wrist, and two apps disagreeing about the same night. Wearing both is fine and often informative. Merging what they produce into one history is where it goes wrong — and the reason is more specific than “devices are different”.

The measurements mostly agree. The scores never will.
Two devices measuring your heart rate overnight will land close to each other, because a beat is an observable event. Steps drift a bit with placement. Sleep timing is usually within a few minutes.
Then each vendor takes those inputs and produces a recovery number — Readiness, Recovery, Nightly Recharge, Body Battery — and those numbers are not measurements at all. They are the output of a private model, on a scale that vendor invented, weighted by choices nobody publishes. A 74 from one brand and a 74 from another are two unrelated facts that happen to share a digit.
Why merging quietly breaks things
Any app worth using compares you to yourself. It builds a rolling baseline from your own past and then tells you what today looks like relative to it. Feed two vendors' scores into that baseline and you get an average of two different definitions of a good night — a reference line that describes neither device and therefore fails to describe you. The damage is subtle, which is what makes it bad: nothing errors, the charts still look plausible, and the advice slowly stops fitting.
The same applies to HRV. Devices differ in sampling window, sensor site and filtering, so their absolute HRV values are not interchangeable even though both are technically correct. Baselines have to be built per device.
When wearing two is genuinely useful
Wear both by all means. It is the fastest way to learn how much of a “bad recovery day” is your body and how much is your device — if only one of them thinks you slept badly, that tells you something about the sensor, not about you. It is also the sane way to change devices: overlap for a couple of weeks, watch where they systematically differ, and expect a step-change in your scores when you switch, not because your health changed but because the ruler did.
What does not work is treating the pair as one longer record. Two overlapping histories are two histories.
The split that actually matters
The useful question is not “how many devices” but “what kind of number”. A vendor-scored construct — readiness, sleep score, recovery percentage, HRV baseline — should come from exactly one source, permanently. A physical measurement — kilograms, body-fat percentage, millimetres of mercury, breathing events per hour — can come from anywhere, because a kilogram is a kilogram whoever weighed it.
So a scale, a blood-pressure cuff or a sleep mat under the mattress can sit alongside your ring without touching your baselines. A second recovery ring cannot.
